So I’m staying at my first ever hostel – Tranquilo Backpackers. It’s a chill, German-run place. Cheap ($12 dorm room style), clean, and it includes free make-your-own pancake breakfasts. Lots of common space, including a little patio in the front, a lobby with hammocks and free internet (as shitty and inconsistent as it maybe), and of course, the kitchen. Also common space is the TV room, which was occupied by 3 annoying guys sharing the room with me (not the 3 guys I mentioned yesterday, it’s three other younger guys). They watched “Rocky” today while I enjoyed the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica. Good for them, taking in some culture. To be honest, the only culture they’re taking in is the strip club culture of Costa Rica. Ridiculous.
Anyway, I’m going to bed. I’m getting up early, making pancakes, and hitting the road with Mike. We’re taking a 4 1/2 hour bus to Puerto Viejo, where you can find the best surfing in Costa Rica (if not Central America), on the Caribbean coast. After that…who knows? Really itching to get out of city though.
Today I didn’t take so many photos, but I did put photos up of the hostel. Check them out on my photostream.
Until next time, enjoy the snow, and I’ll enjoy the rays.

i stayed there too. yeah best to get out of san jose as soon as possible. $12, you’ll find, is really expensive for a room when you get out into the smaller towns.
Hey just looking at blogs related to Bocas and found yours. That hostel sounds pretty cool, when I was in san jose overnight before I went to bocas I was traveling with some other people and they got a room at the radisson… $12 and free pancakes, I would have gone there haha. you have some great photos. I have a Canon 10D which I still haven’t taken time to learn about
Well, hope you have a great trip!
